Welcome to our LA transplants, Don and Ahna! Just this week they are closing on a darling mountain cottage. Besides the solid main house, this home features a detached carriage house on one of the gentlest five acre properties in the neighborhood. Just minutes to the Five Mile House and Scotts Flat Lake boat launch, this secluded home is ready their special touches! Welcome to you both and I hope you will be sure to send us an invitation to your first garden party .
I have to admit, when we helped the previous original owner prepare his home for sale, it was bittersweet. Bob and his wife had built this dream retirement home, and it showed the love and care of design she was noted for, and the attention to detail that both of them brought to the plans. Their personality is everywhere in this property and it took time to gently move him forward.
After years of living this little gemstone needed some hard polishing. Although willing to work and help, the owner just had little energy for the hard work required to spiff. Most of the agents who were interviewed didn’t see the “bones” as I did. They wanted to discount the house and park-like property, to get it sold. I saw the future and the past all in one, and recognized that all we needed was a plethora of young muscle to clean the interior (lots and lots of wood) and groom the grounds. So I launched my team. They did an amazing job of clearing the exterior grounds, monitoring a burn pile, pressure washing, leaf blowing, and daily dump runs.
Bob’s friend Caryl had already begun her estate sale project, so we had plenty of activity to get it all cleaned up, stuff sold, and packaged up for the next part of his life. There remained a few carefully chosen pieces of staging furniture, and a clean bright palette for me to begin my staging of this home. It was a real blast. AND an exercise in creative staging. I always try to have the house shine and have it NOT be about my staging, but rather to focus attention on the beautiful details that most custom homes sport.
Once we had invested time and energy for weeks in advance, our market roll out was fabulous! We had brokers luncheon, two other open houses, and at least three showings per day for a week. That is when Don saw the property with his agent, Heather, and the rest is history.
Repairs accomplished, final estate sales this last weekend, and closed this week. What a fabulous summer our LA friends will be having in their lovely mountain get away.
You too can have this experience. If planning on getting your home sold is just a DAUNTING task, please call me and I will set an appointment to explain how you too can be on the move.
